The Pac-12, consistently the top softball conference in the nation, is again this year, with eight of the nine teams ranked in the Top 25. The Bruins are coming off their first Pac-12 sweep of the season against Utah this past weekend, which is their third conference series victory in a row. UCLA improved its record to 33-12 (9-6 in Pac 12 – third place) and has won eight of its last nine games. Additionally, we lead the nation with a .359 batting average and a .621 slugging percentage, are second in home runs (73), third in runs per game (7.27) and fourth in the doubles (79). We’d also like to congratulate freshman third baseman Stephany LaRosa for being honored as Pac-12 Player of the Week, as well as USA Softball National Player of the Week for the week of April 9-15th. LaRosa leads the team with a .456 batting average, .859 slugging percentage, 15 home runs and 57 RBI.   After two home runs in Saturday’s game against Utah, senior utility Andrea Harrison moved into fourth place on UCLA’s all-time home run list. A first-team All-American in 2011, Harrison increased her career total to 53. Katie Schroeder, another impactful senior and first-team All American, leads the team in doubles with 14 and stolen bases with 15. It’s safe to say the Bruins are dynamite on offense!   UCLA Softball would also like to congratulate senior catcher Brooke Finley for her accomplishments off the field, as she received one of UCLA’s Top 15 Distinguished Senior Awards this past Sunday. As one of fifteen senior recipients across the entire student body, Brooke was recognized for her leadership, involvement and service to the UCLA community as well as academic excellence. Go Brooke!   Lastly, we were honored to have 1982 National Champion and Academic All-American Shelly Carlin back at Easton Stadium this past weekend. Carlin is currently the Senior Vice President for Motorola Solutions and still a Bruin through and through. Not only was she a Grand Slam Sponsor for our 6th Annual UCLA Softball Golf Tournament, she has donated the largest gift to the Athletic Department from a former female student-athlete in UCLA history. Shelly threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Sunday’s game with a strike right down the middle. Shelly also spoke at the Athletic Department’s Wooden Academy Monday night, addressing all the student-athletes about life after sports, tips on how to enter into the business world and sharing some of her best memories here at UCLA. We are so thankful to have her as a part of our Bruin Bubble!                   The Bruins travel on Thursday to play Cal this weekend in a three-game series (Friday-Sunday) against the #1 Golden Bears. Please take a look at the itinerary and information below and let me know if you have any questions about the flow of the event!  This is a hefty email, but I promise it will answer a majority of your questions, so I’d really appreciate it if you took the time to read it carefully. Itinerary:   10:30am: Registration & Putting Contest Begins 11:30am: Putting Contest Closes 12:00pm: Shot Gun, Boxed Lunch Served on Carts (11am-3pm) at the BBQ on the turn 5pm: Cocktail Hour Begins, Dinner Registration Begins, Silent Auction Begins 5:30pm: UCLA Softball Introduction/Welcome 6pm: Banquet Dinner, Live Auction Begins A couple of notes:
  • When you arrive to the course, please drop off your bag before parking your car (there will be cones directing traffic & a volunteer waiting for you)
  • PLEASE arrive as early as possible for registration in order to get to the Putting Contest with enough time before Shot Gun and to avoid a rush close to the beginning of the tournament
  • You will be receiving meal tickets for lunch once you go through registration—try your best not to lose these!
  • Every registered golfer is automatically registered for the banquet dinner (it’s already been covered)—so come ready to bid on some AWESOME items (list attached).
  • You will receive your bid stickers at the Dinner Registration table inside the Banquet Hall ( for Golfers, make sure you get these once you come off the course).
  • We do have a Super Ticket available for sale. It includes: entry into all contests/prizes, mulligans, raffle tickets and a chance on the opportunity board.
  • Our On-Course Contests this year include: Putting Contest, Longest Drive, Straightest Drive, Closest to the Pin in addition to First, Second and Last Place! All of these contests include Prizes so purchase your Super Ticket to participate!
  • Prizes include: UCLA Engraved Wood Bat, UCLA Paper Weights, Computer Bags, Tickets to UCLA Softball Games/Concession Vouchers, UCLA Bruin Driver Covers, Gift Certificates, Wine etc.
  • Our Hole-In- One Contest will be on Hole #13 and the prize will be $10,000 cash!
  • Can you throw faster that a Bruin? There will be a throwing/pitching contest on the way to the 8th hole!
  • There will be soda, beer and water provided on various holes around the course. Please drink responsibly. There’s also a beverage cart provided by Sea Cliff for beverages for purchase.
  • Every Golfer will receive a Goody Bag placed on their cart. This will include some snacks, fun give-away items and a program for the Silent/Live auction for you to take a look at while you’re playing!
  • We will be having Outback Steakhouse and Dixon Golf on the course—make sure you stop at these sponsors!
  • Super Mex will be having a taco truck donated from the hourse of 10-1pm for everyone as well! Eat to your leisure!
  • Lastly, make sure you get your picture taken by our photographer on the day of for some fun memories J
