Vision

Dear Member of the “Bruin Bubble”,

We would like to invite you to join us on another exciting run for a National Championship in 2012.   While disappointed after our 2011 finish, we feel that we are healthier, stronger and more committed to the tradition of excellence within this UCLA Softball program as ever before.

The team’s depth this year will provide us with great confidence to compete throughout the season. With the determination, leadership and championship experience of our upperclassmen, we can rely on them to help guide the younger Bruins in the2012 season.  Our sophomore class gained great experience, as all four started in the lineup as freshmen last season. They are motivated and excited to get back on the field as veterans.  In addition to our strong core of returners, the freshman class brings great strength with strong hitters and a powerful pitching—we expect them to immediately impact our lineup both offensively and defensively

With the utmost confidence, I can honestly say that today is a great day to be a part of the UCLA Softball family.   Join me in continuing the tradition of the “winningest” program in the history of Division I softball. To this date, we have won more titles than any other program in Division I softball.  Our culture is strong and we are practicing our philosophy of competitive excellence every day, both on and off the field.

It was not very long ago that the vision of Easton Stadium was only whispered as we played in facilities that are inconceivable today. Now, we proudly showcase Easton Stadium and the Sharron Backus Clubhouse. Proceeds from our annual golf tournaments and your past donations have allowed us to build the Sue Enquist Hitting Facility, upgrade our video training system, redesign our dugouts and upgrade the overall stadium appearance. However, the list of desired improvements grows as we strive to keep UCLA Softball at the championship level. Our vision includes a new color video scoreboard, permanent lights for our facility, a performance training center for vision training, and a training room to rehabilitate our athletes. These are areas we’d like to focus on in the near future in order to accelerate the development of our softball players.

While it is important that we move forward into the future, we dare not overlook our past. As the current stewards of the program we feel it important that we highlight our accomplishments to our guests at Easton Stadium.  We are currently working to create a “Wall of Fame” at Easton Stadium to honor our past championship teams and alumnae as an homage to the history and tradition of this storied program.

All of your generous donations directly support our program and help UCLA Softball stay at the top as the dominant force in college softball. Our goal is for our athletes, alumnae, family and fans to proudly wear the four letters with pride athletically, academically, personally and competitively.

Lastly, I’d like to thank all those who joined us at the last UCLA Softball Golf Tournament. With a 58% increase in attendance it’s safe to say that it was a great success!  We encourage you to save the date for next year’s tournament at Sea Cliff Country Club on September 17, 2012.
